Ketosis, Pro and Con?

A basic problem, that many believe is caused by a prolonged state of
Ketosis, is a semi-permanent change in the way your fat cells operate. This
makes it next to impossible to lose weight the second time around and also
may cause many people to gain additional weight.

My personal experience with this is, that when I was 12, a well meaning (but
wicked) step mother pit me on the latest fad diet (in the 70s!), a zero
carbohydrate diet. I was not particularly fat before that time, maybe just
a bit of a husky kid. I lost a whopping 10 or 12 lbs.!

I can mark that day as the beginning of my battle with truly unmanageable
weight gain. I think it was particularly bad because it happened right on
the cusp of puberty.

Let’s face it, the body is an incredible efficient machine (too efficient
for most of us). Ketosis is a very wasteful state, not one the body was
designed to maintain for a long period of time (and no Kidney damage is not
the issue). It may be good for producing rapid weight loss, but so is AIDS.

The debate will rage and I probably won’t change anybody’s mind, but I
thought I would share my opinion. Ketosis is fine as a temporary state, but
long term it just ain’t good for ya.
